GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNC Greensboro's women's basketball program, in conjunction with the Southern Conference, will hold its annual Pink Zone game on Saturday against Davidson at 3 p.m. The event will benefit the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund and UNCG's Relay for Life. The Spartans will also host several alumni gatherings Saturday.
Money for cancer treatment, prevention and research will be raised through a variety of ways. Admission to the game will be $3, with $1 from each ticket going toward the cause. UNCG Student-Athlete Committee for Intercollegiate Athletics (SACIA) representatives will also be on hand to sell cause-related items.
Cancer survivors will be treated to free admission to the Pink Zone game, MVP seating on the floor and a Spartan Club pregame social with food and drinks. Those interested should contact Jackie Walsh at 336-334-3253, 336-420-6408 or jawalsh@uncg.edu to make reservations.
On the day of the game, UNCG cheerleaders and the basketball team will be wearing pink silicone bracelets and event staff will be wearing pink T-shirts. Fleming Gym will be decorated with pink and white balloons and pink banners on the railings.
The women's basketball team will host an alumni brunch at 11 a.m. in the two-court gym and a pregame social in the two-court at 2 p.m. There will also be a postgame event at Natty Greene's at 6 p.m.
UNCG brings a 7-15 overall record and a 4-10 Southern Conference mark into the game. Davidson is 11-10, 9-4 and brings a two-game win streak into the game. The contest will also be the 900th of UNCG coach Lynne Agee's career.
