UNCG cancels "Education in the World of Sport" clinic

GREENSBORO, N.C. - In light of the weekend's inclement weather and UNC Greensboro's decision to delay the opening of campus until 10 a.m. Monday, UNCG has cancelled Monday's scheduled "Education in the World of Sport" clinic. The Spartans' noon women's basketball game against Samford will go ahead as scheduled.

UNCG had anticipated hosting nearly 600 fifth-graders and administrators from nine GCS elementary schools for the clinic, which was set to kick off at 9:45 a.m. After the schools took part in four 15-minute instructional sections about: math in relation to sports; the importance of exercise and nutrition; how sports play an integral part in current affairs, politics, etc.; and the importance of time management and good grades in preparation for college, the group was going to attend UNCG's game against Samford as part of the NCAA's "Pack the House" initiative.

While the clinic has been cancelled, the classes are still being invited to attend the game.

UNCG officials are working to possibly reschedule the clinic for later in the season.

The Spartans and FOX8 are still teaming up for a food drive to benefit the Salvation Army at the game. Fans donating a nonperishable food item will gain free entry into the contest.
