GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNC Greensboro women's golfer Sofia Aidemark and women's basketball player Monique Floyd were inducted into UNCG's prestigious Golden Chain Honor Society on Sunday.
Aidemark and Floyd were part of a 22-member induction class. The Golden Chain Honor Society seeks to recognize UNCG students for outstanding achievement and service to the university. Founded in 1948, The Golden Chain is unique to the UNCG campus. The seven links of the Golden Chain symbolize the qualities that have always been prerequisite for election to membership: leadership, scholarship, service, tolerance, judgment, magnanimity and character.
Candidates may be nominated by university students, faculty,
staff, Golden Chain alumni and honorary members. Candidates must be
juniors or seniors at UNCG with an overall grade point average of
at l east 3.25. The Golden Chain Scholarship is awarded annually
and is supported by Society projects and donations from Golden
Chain alumni and honorary members.
Sofia Aidemark led the Spartans in stroke average as a
junior.
Aidemark, a senior from Laholm, Sweden, led the Spartans with a 77.97 stroke average as a junior last season. She was a member of the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team and earned a spot on the CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III Second Team. Aidemark was also an Academic All-Southern Conference performer.
Floyd, a junior from Fairmont, N.C., was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore last season. A team captain this year, Floyd was an Academic All-Southern Conference selection last season and was the league's player of the week on Feb. 24. She averaged 9.7 points and 3.9 rebounds per game in 2008-09, both career highs.
Also among the inductees Sunday was senior Kris Ostrowka, the voice of UNCG men's and women's soccer on Spartan All Access for the last two seasons.
Additional inductees were: Ashley Andrews, Brittany Atkinson, Kyle Blair, Colleen Brady, Aneshia Cooper, Eric Durham, Valentyna Filimonova, Jaimey Howard, Tiffany Jamerson, Jenifer McCrea, Jordan Muqtasid, Caroline Myrick, Jacqueline Reed, Denise Smith, Ben Tarsa, Danika Washington, Erica White, Margie Wiggins and Anna Williams.
