UNCG to appear at least twice on SportSouth

SPARTANBURG, SC – UNC Greensboro will appear at least twice as a part of the Southern Conference’s 2007-08 basketball television package with FoxSportsNet affiliate SportSouth.

The package features 12 men’s games and five women’s games. The men’s schedule includes ten regular-season match-ups and both semifinal pairings from the 2008 Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament in North Charleston, SC. All 11 conference schools are represented in the men’s portion of the schedule during the regular season.

In addition, SportSouth will televise three games from the 2008 Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament also in North Charleston, SC, both of the semifinal games and the final. In addition, SportSouth will televise two regular-season pairings, the first of which features the two-time defending conference tournament champion Chattanooga Mocs.

UNCG will host Georgia Southern on Saturday, Jan. 5, in one of two appearances. That game will be moved from 7 pm to 3 pm to accommodate the television coverage. The Spartans will also play two weeks later on SportSouth at Elon, which will also be a 3 pm tip.

The conference’s television slate on FoxSportsNet South, another FSN affiliate, will be announced later this month.

“Our partnership with the Southern Conference gives SportSouth the opportunity to bring local sports to local fans,” said Jeff Genthner, senior vice president and general manager of FSN South and SportSouth.  “Our viewers will see consistently competitive Southern Conference basketball, while the conference will benefit from SportSouth’s network-quality productions and extensive distribution across the Southeast.”

“This year’s television package is one of the most comprehensive the Southern Conference has ever produced,” said John Iamarino, commissioner of the Southern Conference.  “We’re confident that our fans will enjoy watching SportSouth’s presentation of the games, and we’re pleased that SportSouth’s cable and satellite distribution will make these games available to every Southern Conference school community.”

SportSouth reaches 8.9 million cable and satellite subscribers across a six state region comprised of Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and regions of central and western North Carolina.  FSN South reaches 12 million homes in seven states in the Southeast. FSN is the nation’s leading provider of local sports. Through its affiliates and other Fox Networks Group-owned (FNG) networks, FSN reaches more than 82 million homes through 22 regional networks. Headquartered in Los Angeles, FSN owned or affiliated regional sports networks serve as the TV home to 64 of the 82 MLB, NHL and NBA teams based in the United States.

UNCG’s Feb. 19 game with Davidson will also be televised by ESPN2, giving the Spartans a minimum of television games this season.
