UNCG’s Jasmine Dixon named to Academic All-District Team

GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro senior forward Jasmine Dixon has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District women’s basketball team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Reston, VA, native was named to the District III second team on the strength of her efforts both in the classroom and on the court. Dixon graduated last May with a 4.0 grade point average with a double major in communications and African American studies. She is currently pursing her master’s degree and boasts a 3.85 grade point average in her graduate coursework.

Dixon has seen action in 108 career games and is averaging 4.3 points and 3.5 rebounds for her career. This season she tallied her first career double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds against UNC Asheville setting new career highs in both categories.  The 5-11 forward has scored in double figures five times this season and since being inserted into the starting lineup against Western Carolina in January has averaged 9.4 points and 5.4 rebounds.

The Spartans return to the hardwood on Saturday when they welcome SoCon rival, Western Carolina. First tip is set for 3 pm in Fleming Gym. Saturday’s game also marks “Think Pink” Day. UNCG and the Southern Conference in conjunction with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association have designated all SoCon basketball games on Saturday as “Think Pink” as a part of the national effort to raise awareness of breast cancer treatment, prevention and research.
