UNCG graduate assistant Sarah Harris hired as Grove City College's head coach

GROVE CITY, PA – Grove City College has hired former UNC Greensboro graduate assistant coach Sarah Harris as its new women’s basketball coach.

Harris comes to Grove City after spending the past two seasons with the Spartans. In 2005-06, Harris helped the Spartans to an 18-12 record and a berth in the finals of the Southern Conference Championship Tournament and a second place finish in the regular season standings.

“Sarah was an excellent addition to our program,” UNCG head coach Lynne Agee said. “She understands the inner workings of a basketball team from a player perspective and also from a coaching perspective. She has had valuable experience in working and administering summer camps both as a player and as a coach. Sarah has a broad knowledge of the game, and is an enthusiastic student of the game, which I feel will obviously assist her in her new role of head coach.”

“I have no question that Sarah will be a successful head coach, and will stay committed to the values she determines are important in her program. We are excited for Sarah, but we hate to see her leave our program. She made herself an invaluable member of our team.”

A cum laude graduate of NCAA Division III Wheaton (Ill.) College, Harris was a three-year starter, two-year captain and four-year letterwinner from 1999-2000 and 2002-04. She helped the Thunder capture the Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) title in both her sophomore and senior seasons.

Harris earned All-CCIW Third Team honors following both her sophomore and junior season. In addition, she earned Academic All-District V honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in both 2003 and 2004.

Harris graduated from Wheaton with bachelor’s degree in Spanish in 2003. In 2004, she earned a master’s degree in intercultural studies/TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at Wheaton while finishing her playing career.

She is completing the final requirements for a second master’s degree in exercise and sport science at UNCG. Harris will hold the rank of assistant professor of physical education and exercise science at Grove City.

Sarah is the daughter of Wheaton’s men’s basketball coach Bill Harris, who completed his 15th year at the helm of the Thunder program in 2005-06.

Grove City College is a Division III institution and a member of the President’s Athletic Conference. This past season, the Wolverines finished with a 7-19 overall record. The school is made up of approximately 2,300 students and is located in northwest Pennsylvania - about 60 miles north of the city of Pittsburgh.
