SPARTANBURG, SC - The Southern Conference today named UNC Greensboro's Kemena Brooks as the Baden SoCon Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played between Feb. 7-13. Brooks is the first UNCG player to nab the accolade in the 2005-06 season.
Brooks, a sophomore from Accokeek, MD, came off the bench last week for the Spartans to average 17.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in almost 24 minutes of action per outing. Brooks shot 57 percent from the field in UNCG's 1-1 week, including going 4-for-7 from beyond three-point range and a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe.
In the Spartans' 85-84 loss at Appalachian State on Saturday, Brooks scored a career-best 25 points on 8-for-13 shooting from the floor. Brooks scored 21 of her points in the second half, including nine points in the final two minutes of the contest in bringing UNCG all the way back from a 10-point deficit.
The sophomore finished the week with a career-high six rebounds in the 59-58 win at College of Charleston on Monday to go along with 10 points, which was her sixth double digit effort in the past seven games.
UNCG hosts Elon on Saturday at 2 pm at Fleming Gym.
