UNCG to host Spartan Softball Winter Clinics on Jan. 16

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG will host the Spartan Softball Winter Clinics on Monday, Jan. 16, coach Jennifer Herzig announced Thursday.

The clinics are open to all girls ages 10-18. Participants will be grouped by age and skill level.

There will be three sessions: a defensive clinic, a hitting clinic and a pitcher/catcher clinic. Each session costs $55. Special pricing for multiple sessions includes two clinics for $100 or all three for $145.

SESSION I - DEFENSIVE CLINIC: INFIELD & OUTFIELD ($55)
10 a.m.- 12 p.m.
The UNCG Softball Defensive Clinic is designed for all infielders and outfielders, ages 10 to 18. Proper throwing mechanics will be taught, followed by position play (infield or outfield). All positional fundamentals will be covered including glove work, footwork, transitions to throws and special coverages.
(NOTE: Pitching and catching will NOT be covered in this session.)

SESSION II - HITTING CLINIC ($55)
1-3 p.m.
The UNCG Softball Hitting Clinic is designed for all hitters, ages 10 to 18, and for all skill levels from beginner to advanced. In addition to receiving instruction on proper swing mechanics, hitters will participate in various hitting drills - covering topics such as the fundamental breakdown of a swing, contact points, short game and hitting for power - designed for personal development. Further instruction will include knowledge of the strike zone and specific game situations.

SESSION III - PITCHER/CATCHER CLINIC ($55)
3:30-5:30 p.m.
The UNCG Softball Pitcher/Catcher Clinic is designed for pitchers and catchers ages 10 to 18, ranging in skill level from beginner to advanced. Beginning pitchers will focus on basic fundamentals of the fastball and change-up, as well as an introduction to breaking pitches. Advanced pitchers will focus on the fundamentals of movement pitches as well as speed development. Further instruction will include pitching strategies, pitch placement and working the count. Catchers will focus on all fundamentals including receiving, blocking, framing, throwing, bunt coverage and tag plays.
