Bedwell, Canada split Thursday to finish third in pool
BOGOTA, Colombia – Incoming UNCG freshman Katelyn Bedwell and the Canadian Junior Women's National Team split two games Thursday at the III Pan American Championship to complete their round-robin portion of the tournament. Canada topped Mexico, 6-2, before falling to the United States, 3-0.
Canada jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with a three-run second inning. After Mexico made it 3-1 in the third, Canada pushed across two more runs in the fifth before adding an insurance run in the sixth.
After banging out nine hits against Mexico, Canada managed just two in the loss to the United States. The U.S. scored twice in the first inning before adding another run in the sixth.
Canada has gone 4-2 in the tournament so far, finishing third in Pool A behind the United States and Brazil, the only two teams to beat the Canadians.
Canada will play Venezuela on Friday, and must win two games to advance to the 2011 ISF Junior Women's World Championship. That tournament will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, from Dec. 6-17, 2011.
