Harrell named SoCon Pitcher of the Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNC Greensboro senior Amber Harrell has been named the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week for games March 22-28, the league office announced Monday.
Harrell went 2-0 with a 0.50 ERA, picking up two of UNCG's three wins on the week. The Spartans went 3-1 in a pair of doubleheaders against Marshall and NC State.
Against Marshall on Wednesday, the McDonough, Ga., native allowed one run on six hits, striking out four in UNCG's 3-1 win.
The following day, Harrell two-hit the Wolfpack, striking out eight. She allowed just a first-inning unearned run before shutting down NC State the rest of the way.
In two games, Harrell allowed just eight hits - only one of which went for extra bases - and limited opposing batters to a .167 average.
She struck out 12 batters in two games, inching closer to the school record of 565 for her career. Harrell currently has 523, 80 of which have come so far this season.
The award is the third of its kind of Harrell, who took the honor twice last season as a junior. The award is also the second this season for UNCG, which saw Cory Mattson take the honor on March 8.
UNCG returns to action Tuesday when it will host East Carolina for a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
