Ausley named Southern Conference Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, SC – UNC Greensboro junior Brittany Ausley has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for games April 6-12 after hitting .545 and helping the Spartans to a 4-1 record on the week, the league office announced Monday. The award is voted on by the league's softball sports information directors.

Ausley had an outstanding offensive week, posting team highs in batting average, runs (eight), home runs (two), RBI (six), slugging percentage (1.182), walks (five) and on-base percentage (.688). She was also flawless in the field in six chances.

The left fielder from Wake Forest, NC, had two multi-hit games and scored two runs each in four of UNCG's five contests. She got her big week started with consecutive 2-for-3 games against North Carolina Central on Tuesday, scoring four runs and hitting a double and an inside-the-park home run in the doubleheader sweep. She also had three RBI in game one.

Against Samford on Saturday, Ausley hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning in game one to snap a 3-all tie and give UNCG the 6-3 win. She went 1-for-1 with a walk in the game, extending her hitting streak to a career-best 11 games.

Ausley capped her week with another 1-for-1 performance, scoring two runs in Saturday's third game, an 8-4 win, and drawing three walks.

Her five walks on the week pushed her career total to 55, moving Ausley into eighth on UNCG's career list, while her two home runs moved her into eighth on that list, as well, with 13 to her credit.

Ausley becomes UNCG's first SoCon Player of the Week since March 20, 2006, when Gwen Johnson took the honor. Junior Amber Harrell was named the league's pitcher of the week on Feb. 16 of this season.

Furman junior Lana Mackey was tabbed the SoCon Pitcher of the Week for this week.

The Spartans (17-19, 6-6 SoCon) host Charlotte (23-12, 7-3 Atlantic 10) on Tuesday in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
