RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – Former Spartan softball player Jennifer Bonilla and the Puerto Rico national team concluded action at the 2007 Pan American Games on Friday.
The Puerto Rico team concluded round-robin action with a 0-4 record after falling to Brazil 1-0 in its final game on Friday afternoon. The team also has losses to Venezuela, Argentina and Canada. The team tallied four hits, 21 putouts and 10 assists for the game.
Bonilla, who had started the previous two games, didn’t see any action in the final game of the tournament. Bonilla finished the tournament with one run, one hit and 20 putouts, the most of any member of her team.
The Puerto Rico team will now train for several weeks in preparation for their Olympic qualifier that will be held Aug. 18-26 in Valencia, Venezuela. In the four-team qualifier they will play national teams from Venezuela, the Dominican Republic and Cuba. The winner of the tournament will earn a bid to the 2008 Olympics.
