CHARLOTTE, NC – The UNC Greensboro softball concluded play at the First Pitch Classic in third place after the final day was canceled due to rain in the Charlotte area. The host 49ers and Marshall Thundering Herd both concluded play with a 3-1 record but Charlotte was crowned champions after defeating Marshall 2-1 on Saturday.
The Spartans went 2-2 in play over the two days and finished in third place. Drexel earned fourth place honors while Southern Conference rival Western Carolina took home fifth place. Marshall’s Rachel Folden was the Offensive MVP of the tournament while Charlotte’s Christy Murray was the tournament’s Most Outstanding Pitcher.
UNCG returns to UNCG Softball Stadium Feb. 28 when it takes on St. Francis (PA) in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3 pm.
