UNCG softball inks Amber Harrell in early signing period
GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro softball coach Jennifer Herzig announced Thursday the signing of Amber Harrell as part of the National Letter of Intent program’s early signing period.
"I am excited to welcome Amber Harrell to UNC Greensboro and the Spartan Softball team,” Herzig said. “She is an exceptional player and student-athlete, and I am looking forward to Amber and her family joining our program."
A native of McDonough, GA, and a product of Henry County High School, Harrell posted an 18-7 record last season as a right-handed pitcher for head coach Chuck Campbell and the Lady Hawks. A back-to-back All-Southern Crescent Softball first team selection and a four-time recipient of the Henry County High School Most Valuable Pitcher Award, Harrell also recorded an 0.48 earned run average and 198 strikeouts last season for the Lady Hawks.
Harrell also played three seasons for the Georgia Mavericks summer team where she helped guide the club to two consecutive ASA State championships. Last season, Harrell posted a 0.65 earned run average, allowing just 81 hits in just over 183 innings of mound duty. The senior also collected 231 punchouts while surrendering just 62 walks.
"I am fully confident that Amber will make an immediate impact on this team and will fill a void that will be created this year due to the graduation of one of our pitchers,” Herzig said. “Amber embodies the determination and competitiveness of a true Spartan and exemplifies the characteristics that we are looking for en route to building a championship program."
