SPARTANBURG, SC – For the second time in the last three weeks, UNC Greensboro centerfielder Gwen Johnson has been selected the Southern Conference softball Player of the Week.

Johnson compiled 17 total bases and posted a 1.308 slugging percentage and a .647 on-base percentage.

She had a hit in four of the five contests, including a perfect 3-for-3 performance with two runs scored, a three-run homer and four RBIs in the Spartans’ 10-2 win over South Carolina State on Saturday afternoon. She also blasted a two-run shot in an 8-4 loss to East Tennessee State earlier in the day on Saturday, while also connecting for a solo homer in an 8-2 setback to Pittsburgh on Friday afternoon. In all, she had a homer in three straight games.

Johnson leads the team in every offensive category except total hits, where she sits second. She currently owns a .377 batting average with 17 runs scored, four doubles, seven homers and 15 RBIs.

UNCG returns home for a pair of non-conference in-state doubleheaders this week. The Spartans host Campbell on Tuesday for a 3 pm twinbill, while North Carolina A&T heads across town for two beginning at 3 pm on Wednesday. All games are played at UNCG Softball Stadium.
