Johnson named SoCon Softball Player of the Week
SPARTANBURG, SC – UNC Greensboro centerfielder Gwen Johnson has been selected the Southern Conference softball Player of the Week, for the week ending Feb. 26.
Johnson, a senior from Boston, VA, hit .636 (7-for-11) in the Spartans' 2-2 week. The pre-season All-SoCon second team selection went 2-for-2 with a walk, double, and run scored in a 5-2 loss to Radford on Wednesday, Feb. 22.
She followed that up by going 2-for-2 with a solo home run and two runs scored in a 4-3 victory over Kennesaw State last Friday in the KSU Classic. Later in the day, Johnson went 3-for-4 with three runs scored a triple and a three-run homer in the Spartans' 9-8 win over Toledo.
Johnson ranks second on the team with a .320 batting average with a team-topping two homers and four RBI.
UNCG will get back to action this Friday in the Charleston Southern Tournament in Charleston, SC. The Spartans will take on UNC Wilmington at 4 pm and then Oakland at 6 pm.
