UNCG men fifth, women ninth at SoCon Cross Country Championships

CULLOWHEE, NC – The UNC Greensboro men’s cross country team was paced by Andrew Clyne’s 20th place finish and took fifth place at the 2007 Southern Conference Cross Country Championships hosted by Western Carolina. The women’s team, led by Sherrika Jordan, turned in a ninth place finish.

Andrew Clyne crossed the finish line in a time of 26:10.29 and posted his best time of the season, shaving over 30 seconds off of his previous best of 26:47 which he set at the Blue Ridge Mountain Open. UNCG junior Ryan Rodd was UNCG’s next finisher and crossed the 8,000-meter course in a time of 26:33.40, also a season-best.

On the women’s side, Sherrika Jordan led the way with a 41st place finish with a time of 19:29.29. Jordan, who was UNCG’s top finisher at the Winthrop/Asics Invitational and the Colonial Inter-Regional, was 14 seconds off of her personal-best of 19:16, set earlier this year. Freshman Tiffany Garber turned in a 54th place finish with a time of 19:53.49, a new personal-best.

Appalachian State, led by individual champion Brian Deal, placed seven in the Top 10 to claim the men’s title while Chattanooga, edged out Davidson by nine points for the women’s team title. Chattanooga senior Kathleen Turchin claimed the individual title with a time of 17:30.35.   

The UNCG men turned in a program-best third place finish a year ago and placed two runners in the Top 10, while the women’s team finished in ninth place.

The Spartans will take time off before heading to the NCAA Regional Championship on Nov. 10 in Louisville, KY.
