UNCG men and women tabbed fifth and eighth in SoCon cross country

SPARTANBURG, NC – The Southern Conference coaches have selected UNC Greensboro to finish fifth and eighth respectively in men’s and women’s cross country.                        

Appalachian State’s men’s team was chosen to finish first after receiving seven first place votes and 88 total points.  Chattanooga, selected to finish second, collected the three remaining votes, tallying a total of 80 points.  Furman, Western Carolina and UNC Greensboro round of the top five.

On the women’s side, Chattanooga was tabbed as the conference’s first place finisher after sweeping all 10 first place votes.  The reigning SoCon regular season champions collected all of the possible 100 points.  Appalachian State is slated to finish second followed by Davidson, Furman and College of Charleston.

Both teams open their regular season this Saturday at the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, VA beginning at 9 am.
