GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG indoor track and field teams return to action this weekend with three runners travelling to the Flotrack Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., while the rest of the team will participate in the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational.
The Spartans will send junior Paul Chelimo (Chebiemit, Kenya/Chebiemit Boys School), sophomore Paul Katam (Eldoret, Kenya/Sacho) and junior Chelsea Sumney (Washington, Pa./Trinity) will head to the prestigious Flotrack event hosted by the University of Washington Friday and Saturday.
Chelimo will run the 3,000-meter race at the Husky Classic and already owns the top time in the Southern Conference this season at 8:11.56. He earned All-America honors last season in the event when he placed fourth in the national championships with a time of 7:50.26. Katam and Sumney will both run the 5,000-meter distance at the event this weekend. Both runners will be running that distance for the first time this season.
The remainder of the Spartans will head to the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational this weekend. The men's team will send 12 runners to Clemson, including Abraham Kemboi (Eldoret, Kenya/Kipkabus) who will be running in the 3,000-meter race and owns personal-best time of 8:35.46 in the event.
Also, the Spartans will have two runners in the 5,000-meter event in Taylor Day (Cornelius, N.C./Hopewell) and Dylan Belles (Denver, N.C./East Lincoln). Day has a personal-best time of 15:35 in the event while Belles has posted a top time of 15:38.53.
The women's program will send 13 runners to the Clemson meet, headlined by the distance medley relay which won the Hilton Garden Invitational last weekend. Additionally, in the mile run the Spartans are led by Kelly Montague (Garner, N.C./West Johnson) and Shannon Hall (Waldorf, Md./North Point) who one mile times of 5:10 and 5:20, respectively.
