Katam sets new school record, nearly qualifies for Nationals

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – UNCG's Paul Katam kicked off the first day for the Spartans by shattering the school record in the 10,000 meters and falling just short of making the National Championships on Thursday evening at the NCAA East Regional.

Katam finished in 13th place after completing the 10,000 meter race in a time of 29:28.57. His time broke his own school record he set on April 28 at the Penn Relays by 27 seconds.

With the top 12 runners in the race advancing to the NCAA National Championship, Katam was the first runner not to advance. He was just over three seconds behind 12th place.

UNCG will continue its stay at the NCAA East Regional on Saturday when Ashley Schnell runs in the 5,000 meters.
