Katam breaks his own school record at Duke Invitational
DURHAM, N.C. – UNCG's Paul Katam continued his impressive outdoor season as he broke his own school record in the 5,000 meters that he set just weeks ago to lead UNCG on the first day of the Duke Invitational on Friday.
Katam finished in second place in the 5,000 meters after running a time of 8:20.76. That broke his school record he set at the Wake Forest Open by over five seconds.
Joey Thompson also had a nice day for UNCG as he completed the 1,500 meters in a time of 3:52.12, which was just over a second off his own school record he set as a freshman.
Jermaine Coore ran a nice race in the 5,000 meter section C race as he won the race with a 15:10.86.
On the women's side, Ashley Schnell finished in ninth place in the 1,500 meters and was just .28 seconds off her school record that she set earlier this season.
The Spartans will wrap up their stay at the Duke Invitational on Saturday as competition resumes at 9 a.m.
