Thompson named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNC Greensboro's Joey Thompson, a member of the men's track & field team, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for April 28.
The sophomore from Columbia, Md., is a pre-business administration major and has a 4.0 GPA.
Thompson placed second in the 1,500m run at the 2010 Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships held this past weekend. His time of 3:53.85 was just .34 seconds behind the event winner. Thompson earned All-SoCon honors in the event.
This is the second time this season that Thompson has been named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week. Back on Oct. 7 Thompson earned the award for the first time after breaking the school record in the 8k during cross country season.
The Spartans will return to action on May 9 as they travel to Durham, N.C. for the Duke Twilight.
