Thompson named SoCon Track Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNC Greensboro sophomore Joey Thompson and has been honored as the Southern Conference Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for all meets February 5-6. The selections are made by the league's track and field coaches.
A native of Columbia, Md., Thompson placed fourth in his heat of the mile run at the prestigious Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind. His time of 4:10.05 was seven seconds better than his previous personal best.
Thompson's time also broke the school record that was set in 2006 and he now leads the league in the event by six seconds.
The Spartans return to action Friday when they travel to Clemson, S.C. to compete in the Tiger Paw Invitational.
