DURHAM, NC – Anthony Savoia set a new school record in the 3000 meter steeplechase by finishing ninth with a time of 9:23.77 to lead the UNC Greensboro track and field teams in final day action at the Duke Invitational.
He broke the school record he set two weeks ago by 10 seconds and was one of two top 10 finishes for the Spartans on the afternoon.
The Spartans also got a top 10 finish from Jess Weber in the 800 meter run. The Lofton, VA native finished in sixth place with a time of 2:21.20 to take UNCG’s second top 10 finish on the day.
UNCG had three men in the 800 meter run and were led by Taylor Hurst who finished in 12th place with a time of 1:56.37 while teammates TJ Wyatt and Andrew Clyne finished with times of 1:56.76 and 1:56.99, respectively.
Savoia led the UNCG contingent in the 3000 meter steeplechase and teammate Ryan Rodd set a new personal best with a time of 9:34.06.
Mary Ann Rutz also posted a personal-best in the 5000m with a time of 19:01.14.
In action at the Murray Neely Invite hosted by North Carolina A&T Robert Belcher led UNCG with a third place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:03.22 also a new personal record.
Patrick O'Connor took 34th place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:12.49 while Ramon Jobson-Brown took 26th in the long jump with a jump of 6.10 meters.
The Spartans will next hit the track at the Carolina Fast Times next weekend.
