CHAPEL HILL, NC – The UNC Greensboro indoor track and field team set 10 new personal records and set two new school records in action at the North Carolina Invitational on Saturday.
Josh Wyatt, broke the school record in the 5000m run with a time of 15:07.55 good for a second place finish. He breaks Joe Jacobs record of 15:07.90 set at the Southern Conference Championships in 2002. Jess Weber also set a new record in the 800m with a time of 2:21.75, breaking Morgan Cole’s record, also set in 2002.
The men were led by a first place finish in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:24.31 outpacing second place finisher Shorter College by over eight seconds. Freshman Anthony Savoia also placed in the top ten with a ninth place finish in the mile run with a time of 4:23.56, also a new personal record.
There were five top 20 finishes on the men’s side. In the 800m Andrew Clyne led the way with an 11th place finish with a time of 1:58.71 while Ryan Rodd completed the event in 2:00.15 to take 16th place. UNCG also recorded two top 20 finishes in the 3000m. Justin Ruppe and Robert Belcher finished in 13th and 17th place with times of 9:13.31 and 9:19.71, respectively.
The women were led by the fifth place finish of the distance medley relay with a time of 13:07.52 Sherrika Jordan was UNCG’s next top finisher, taking 11th place in the mile with a time of 5:18.55. Jess Weber led a trio in the 800m with her 13th place finish while teammates Michelle Chewens and Courtney Fawcett finished in 25th and 33rd place, respectively.
The Spartans will take some time off before concluding the indoor season at the Southern Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 29-March 1.
