CLEMSON, SC – Jeff Williams completed a three-peat Sunday, winning the 800 meter indoor title for the third consecutive year to highlight UNC Greensboro’s performance at the Southern Conference Indoor Track Championships on Sunday.
Williams, a senior from South Plainfield, NJ, finished third in qualifiying Saturday to advance to the round of eight and then won the final race on Sunday with a time 1:54.05, nearly three-tenths of a second faster than Appalachian State’s Adam VanNortwick. Williams also won the SoCon’s 800 meter outdoor title last year to earn a spot at the NCAA East Regional meet.
In other action Saturday, Xavier Rutz and Josh Wyatt scored points for the Spartans in the 500 meters. Rutz finished seventh in a personal-best time of 15:12.11, while Wyatt was eighth with a personal-best time of 15:20.89.
On the women’s side, the top finisher was Tessa Dispenette, who placed 16th in the 5000 meters. She shattered her personal best time, crossing the line in 18:50.20.
