UNCG track teams open indoor season at Chapel Hill

CHAPEL HILL, NC - UNCG's men's and women's track teams opened the 2007 indoor season this past weekend at the UNC Opener with Jeff Williams winning the 800 meters.

Williams, a senior from South Plainfield, NJ who qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Regionals last May and has twice won the Southern Conference Indoor 800 title, won the race with a time of 1:54.98, nearly a full second against of Omar Wiggin from St. Augustine.

UNCG had three runners place in the Top 10 in the men's 3000 meters, led by fourth-place finisher Xavier Rutz in a time of 8:48.39. Ryan Rodd finished fifth, Josh Wyatt finished seventh and Keith Gruchacz placed ninth.

On the women's side, Kathy Oldham placed ninth in the mile with a time of 5:50.76 and Jess Weber placed third in the women's 3000 with a time of 10:54.98.

The teams return to action on January 26 and 27 at the Niswonger Invitational in Johnson City, TN.
