Brett Bernstein has been named as assistant coach for the men’s tennis team, as announcedMonday by head coach Thomas Mozur.

“I am thrilled to have Brett Bernstein as part of my tennis staff,” said Mozur. “He will bring youth and energy to practiceevery day. Brett is a very good player and will add much value to our tennis program as a hitting partner as well.”

Bernstein played four seasons for the University of Texas-Pan American from 2006-10. In his opening collegiate startas a freshman he started off strong with a win against No. 20 Texas A&M All-American doubles team. As a sophomore,Bernstein posted two wins against No.33 Clemson as a team captain. In the 2008-09 season at UTPA, Bernstein and theBroncs ranked as high as No. 2 in the Southland Conference and defeated rival No. 39 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a 4-2victory.

"I am very excited to join the UNCG program,” said Bernstein. “I am looking forward to meeting the team and gettingto know their games. Having the opportunity to work alongside Thomas Mozur, who has had great success with theprogram, is a huge honor."

The Sugarland, Texas native, while playing No.2 singles went 14-7 and was 18-4 at No. 1 doubles with then sophomorebrother Beau Bernstein, earning them a top 100 ITA ranking. Bernstein ended his UTPA career leading his team in theSouthland Conference Tournament with a perfect 4-0 record in singles and doubles.
