Men's Tennis Falls to Chattanooga, 6-1

CHATANOOGA, Tenn. – The UNCG men's tennis team lost its second match of the season to Chattanooga, 6-1 Saturday, March 16. The Blue and Gold are 7-2 this season and 2-2 in SoCon play. 

The Mocs won two out of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. 

Freshman Daniel Mack (Lakeland, Fla./Lakeland) and junior Ahmet Sarioglu(Ankara, Turkey/METU Development Foundation) lost 8-2 to Ankit Chopra and John Peacey at No. 1. 

At No. 3, Sophomore Randy Phillips(Snellville, Ga./Brookwood) and freshman William Albright (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) fell to Manuel Barroetavena and Jackson Tresnan, 8-6. 

Sophomore Cameron Smith (Jamestown, N.C./Ragsdale) and freshman Gaston Murray (Lake Worth, Fla. / Park Vista) picked up the lone doubles win at No. 2 against Chris Smith and Roberto Vieira, 8-6.

Sarioglu dropped his match to Barroetavena at No. 1, 6-1, 6-2. 

At No. 2, Murray won the only singles match for the Spartans 6-2, 6-3 against Chris Smith. 

Mack fell 6-4, 6-4 to Pavels Grigorjevs at No. 4, before Cameron Smith lost 6-2, 6-4 to Tresnan at No. 5. 

Albright dropped a tough match against Luke Saunders at No. 6, 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, before Phillips fought in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 3 but lost to Chopra, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2). 

UNCG will continue SoCon play against Furman Tuesday, March 19 at the UNCG tennis courts at 2 p.m.
