James Dougherty Named SoCon Men's Tennis Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG's James Dougherty (Melbourne, Australia) has been named the Southern Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played February 11-17 the league office announced today. Dougherty helped the Spartans post a 6-1 win over Richmond to move to 3-0 on the season. 

"Congratulations to Jimmy Dougherty for earning Southern Conference player of the week," said head coach Thomas Mozur. "Keep up the good work for the Spartans."

The Melbourne, Australia, native topped Richmond's Jesse Feder at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-1. Earlier in the match, Dougherty teamed with Randy Phillips (Snellville, Ga. / Brookwood) at No. 1 doubles and came away with an 8-2 win over Richmond's Feder and Sebastien Fauchet. 

Dougherty is 2-1 in singles play this spring and boasts a perfect 3-0 mark in doubles competition. 

The Spartans resume play Sunday, February 24 at 3 p.m. when they visit UNC Asheville. 

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State's Matt Saltsgaver, Elon's Cameron Silverman and Samford's Elliot Barnwell.
