WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Sophomore Cameron Smith (Jamestown, N.C. / Ragsdale) and freshman Gaston Murray (Lake Worth, Fla. / Park Vista) lead the Spartans with an 8-4 doubles win against ODU's Zvonimir Podvinski and Darragh Glavin, before picking up a tie-breaking win against Wake Forest's John Ho and Anthony Delcore, 9-8 (7-3). 

"Gaston and Cameron had the win of the day in doubles against Wake Forest," said head coach Thomas Mozur. "Cameron saved the day with a three set win over Furman." 

Junior Jimmy Roueche (Greensboro, N.C. / Grimsley) and freshman William Albright (Greensboro, N.C. / Grimsley) took down Elon's Dan Sablik and Chris Geaslen, 9-7, but fell to Jesse Feder and Paul Nahon from Richmond, 9-7 in quarterfinals. 

Freshmen James Flynn (Plantation, Fla. / American Heritage) and Daniel Mack (Lakeland, Fla. / Lakeland) teamed up to beat ETSU's Conner Knox and Fernando Amon, 8-5, before dropping the C doubles quarterfinals match to Davidson's Robert Lightbourne and Alex Howard, 8-3. 

Smith ended day one of the tournament with the teams lone singles win, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 against Ben Horst from Furman. 

Sophomore Randy Phillips (Snellville, Ga. / Brookwood) advanced to round two of the A flight singles by withdrawal of David Hopkins from Wake Forest. 

Freshman James Dougherty (Melbourne, Australia) fell 6-4, 6-4 to Adam Lee from Wake Forest in A-2 singles, while Murray lost in a three set match against Duke's Dan McCall, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. 

Play at the Wake Forest Invitational continues Saturday, Oct. 13, beginning at 9 a.m.
