Elon, N.C. – Freshman William Albright (Greensboro, N.C. / Grimsley) won a pair of matches Saturday at the Elon Invitational and will play in finals for the C1 singles flight Sunday.

"I'm very impressed with the guys effort today," said head coach Thomas Mozur. "Every match played is a stepping stone to a successful spring." 

Albright picked up a three set victory against Darragh Glavin from ODU, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, before beating Coastal Carolina's John Karle, 7-5, 6-0 in semi-finals, advancing him to the finals round.

Freshman Gaston Murray (Lake Worth, Fla. / Park Vista) fought to win a first-set tie breaker in the second round of B1 singles, 7-6 (12-10), 6-0 against ODU's Wesley Barret, but fell short to Coastal Carolina's Garik Yedigarian, 6-4, 6-4.

Classmate Daniel Mack (Lakeland, Fla. / Lakeland) lost in the B1 singles semi-finals round to Elon's Carlos Arboleda, 6-4, 6-1.    

In consolation singles play, James Dougherty (Melbourne, Australia) defeated USC-Upstate's Gonzalo Blanco, 6-3, 6-3, but fell to Campbell's Steven Billington in a second-set tiebreaker, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

Sophomore Cameron Smith (Jamestown, N.C. / Ragsdale) won 6-0, 7-5 to Florent Sentenac from JMU in the second round of consolation singles, before losing to Clayton Sonn from NC-Wesleyan.

Junior Jimmy Roueche (Greensboro, N.C. / Grimsley) had an easy win against Winthrop's JD O'Brien, 6-0, 6-1, but fell 6-1, 6-0 to Will Welte from Richmond.

Play at the Elon Fall Invitational will conclude Sunday, starting at 9:30 a.m.
