ELON, N.C. – UNCG's men's tennis program dominated in doubles play Friday, Sept. 21 going 4-0 in the first round of the Elon Fall Invitational. 

"I felt like we got some good match experience today," said head coach Thomas Mozur. "The results will come as we get better in singles. Doubles was a pleasant surprise as we went 4-0 today." 

Freshman James Dougherty (Melbourne, Australia) and sophomore Randy Phillips (Snellville, Ga. / Brookwood) teamed up to take down Wake Forest's Anthony Delcore and Sam Bloom, 8-2.

The duo, junior Ahmet Sarioglu (Ankara, Turkey / METU Development Foundation) and freshman Gaston Murray (Lake Worth, Fla. / Park Vista) won 8-6 to Robert Kjellberg and Artsiom Prostak from NC Wesleyan. 

Junior Jimmy Roueche (Greensboro, N.C. / Grimsley) and freshman William Albright (Greensboro, N.C. / Grimsley) doubled up to earn an 8-3 victory against Elon's Robert Lendgren and Christopher Geaslen.

Freshman Daniel Mack (Lakeland, Fla. / Lakeland) and sophomore Cameron Smith (Jamestown, N.C. / Ragsdale) beat ECU's Blake Gregory and Damien Brenard with a tie breaking score of 9-8 (7-3).

In singles play, Murray fought in a first-set tiebreaker beating Conner Sherwood from Wake Forest, 7-6 (9-7), 6-2 in the B singles flight. Mack won in straight sets 6-0, 6-4 against ECU's Colin Roller, while Albright took down Longwood's Steed Johnson, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 in C singles.

Sarioglu went to three sets in the A singles flight, but fell to ODU's Albert Ochagavia, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. Dougherty lost a tough three set match to John Schmitt from ECU, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the A2 singles flight.

Phillips forced a second set tiebreaker but lost 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) to Ted Nilsson from Coastal Carolina in the A2 Singles flight, while Smith fought to win a first set tiebreaker but fell to UNC-Asheville's Alex Croker, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 in B2 Singles.

Roueche lost in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 to USC-Upstate's Jamie Yates, while James Flynn (Plantation, Fla. / American Heritage)  fell to ODU's Alfredo Rodriguez, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Play at the Elon Fall Invitational resumes Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
