ELON, N.C. – Freshman Will Kent won a pair of matches Saturday at the Elon Invitational and will play in Sunday's backdraw final in his singles flight, while Kent and classmate Randy Phillips will play for the consolation title in their doubles flight.
Kent picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win over Longwood's Edward Becker to advance to the B2 Singles backdraw semifinals, then dropped East Carolina's David Masciorini, 6-3, 7-5 to reach Sunday's final. Kent will face USC Upstate's Pierre Vernin in the final.
Kent and Phillips teamed up to take down Coastal Carolina's John Karles and Danny Heidecker 8-6 in the B1 Doubles backdraw Saturday and will face North Carolina Wesleyan's Alexey Rumyantsev and Robert Kjellberg for the backdraw title Sunday.
In other singles action, Phillips fell to Old Dominion's Fahoum Fahoum in the B1 Singles backdraw, 7-5, 6-1. UNCG sophomore Jimmy Roueche dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Richmond's Paula Nahon III in the C Singles main draw.
