Three Spartans earn titles on final day at UTC Baras Collegiate
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Zach Reece earned a singles title and the tandem of Yaroslav Litus and Jacob Wright won a doubles crown on the final day of competition at the UTC Baras Collegiate Fall Classic on Sunday afternoon.
Reece knocked off No. 1 seeded Cedric de Zutter from Memphis in a three-set thriller. Reece rallied back after losing the first set, 6-2, to win the next two sets by scores of 6-2 and 7-5 for his first collegiate championship.
Litus and Wright, who were seeded No. 1 in the doubles flight 2, made quick work of Eastern Kentucky's Hugo Klientovsky and Carlos Pons, the second-seed in the bracket. Litus and Wright won the pro-set by an 8-2 score to claim the flight championship.
In the flight 1 singles title match, UNCG's Orcun Seyrek lost to Memphis' John Grimal-Ferrer when he retired in the second set. At the No. 3 singles flight, third-seeded Ahmet Sarioglu lost in straight sets to top-seeded Carl Arbalos of Samford, 6-4 and 6-2.
In consolation action, Chanon Varapongsittikul claimed third place in flight 2, defeating teammate Jacob Wright, 6-0 and 6-2.
