Seyrek, Varapongsittikul earn singles titles at UNCG Men’s Tennis Fall Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG's Orcun Seyrek and Chanon Varapongsittikul earned flight titles as play concluded Sunday at the UNCG Men's Tennis Fall Invitational.

 

Both Seyrek and Varapongsittikul earned wins over teammates in their respective finals. Seyrek, who lost to a teammate in the Flight A1 finals a year ago, rallied to top UNCG's Timion Meijs, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, to win the Flight A1 finals and finish the weekend 3-0. Seyrek had made easy work of third-seeded Robert Vieira, 6-4 and 6-2, in one semifinal, while Meijs downs Elon's Cody Stauffer-McDowell in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0, with a 10-4 score in the third-set tiebreaker.

 

Varapongsittikul topped fellow freshman Ahmet Sarioglu in the Flight A3 final, 7-5 and 6-1. Varapongsittikul had handled Ryan Spencer, 6-1 and 6-2, in one semifinal, while Sarioglu downed Roman Piftor, 6-1 and 6-3.

 

The doubles flight championships were cancelled due to team travel considerations.
