UNCG wins four singles titles to open season at Baras Collegiate

CHATTANOOGA, TN – UNC Greensboro kicked off the 2008-09 men's tennis campaign with a huge success, winning four out of five singles flights in action at the Baras Collegiate on Sunday.

Arsel Kumdereli, Orcum Seyrek, William John and Kyle Eddins each won the respective flight championships. The only setback came when Andrey Bubnov lost a tough three-set match to Virginia Tech's Luka Somen, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.

Kumdereli, seeded fourth in Flight A2, topped Belmont's Rodrigo Amaral by identical 6-1 scores. Orcum, unseeded in Flight B1, continued his upset march, topping third-seeded Thomas Petrich of UAB in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-3. John, seeded third in Flight B2, rallied to top Lipscomb's James Murrell, 2-6, 7-5, 6-2, to win that crown. Eddens had an easy time in the Flight C1 title match, rolling to a 6-2, 6-3 win over Tennessee-Martin's Petr Markov.

UNCG returns to action October 16 when it plays in the ITA Regionals in Chapel Hill, NC.
