Spartans open action at ITA

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Arsel Kumdereli won an opening round match, but lost in the second round in his quest to play into the main bracket at the ITA Mideast Regional Tournament hosted by the University of Virgina.

Kumdereli topped Winthrop’s Alejandro Portugal by identical 6-3 scores in the opening round. However, he fell to Radford’s James Lloyd, 7-5 and 7-6, in the second round.

Martin Redelinghuys and William John both lost in straight sets in opening round matches.

Andrey Bubnov will face Florida State’s Maciek Sykut on Thursday morning in the main bracket.
