Redelinghuys wins bracket as Spartans wrap up at Baras Collegiate
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Martin Redelinghuys won a pair of singles matches to win the Flight B Consolation Bracket at the Baras Collegiate Men’s Tennis Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
Redelinghuys, seeded third in the bracket to open the weekend, defeated top-seeded Andres Amores of Jacksonville State, 6-0 and 6-2. He then had to face teammate William John, who had picked up a straight set win of his own in the semifinals. Redelinghuys beat John in a 10-point tiebreaker, 10-8, after John won the opening set and Redelinghuys won the second.
In the 10 final matches of the respective brackets, UNCG had representation in five on Sunday.
In other action, William Adeimy lost the Flight C consolation bracket final to Lamar’s Josh Cummings, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7). Adeimy and Taylor Befus lost to Jacksonville State’s Bernie Bachino and Eduardo Saratt in the Flight B main bracket finals, 8-5. In addition, John and Andrey Bubnov lost in the Flight A doubles consolation bracket final to Chattanooga’s Raxvan Axente and Badr Bouabdellah, 8-5.
The Spartans return to action October 12 when they travel to the South Carolina Invitational.
