CHARLESTON, SC – Andrey Bubnov won in straight sets at No. 1 singles, but that was UNC Greensboro’s only point of the afternoon as the Spartans were knocked out of the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Tournament with a 4-1 loss to Georgia Southern.
Bubnov, a junior from Belgorod, Russia, topped Emmanuel Nkouleleue of Georgia Southern, 6-2 and 6-0, to earn a first-flight victory for UNCG (3-20). However, the Eagles won two doubles matches to clinch that point and then came away with three more singles’ wins to wrap things up.
Borja Malet topped Martin Redelinghuys in straight sets at No. 3 singles, while Phillip Prins won in straight sets at No. 5 singles over William John. The Eagles, seeded No. 7, clinched match when Matthew Sands rallied to beat Taylor Befus at the No. 6 slot, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
