Third-set heroics give Wofford 4-3 win over UNCG in men's tennis action

GREENSBORO, NC – Wofford pulled out a pair of three-set wins in singles action to come back for a 4-3 win over UNC Greensboro in Southern Conference men’s tennis action Saturday evening.

The Spartans swept all three doubles pro-sets to jump out to the early 1-0 lead. Arsel Kumdereli and Yaroslav Litus also earned straight-set wins for the Spartans. Kumdereli bolted past George Kernodle, 6-2 and 6-0, while Yaroslav Litus topped Scott Collins, 6-2 and 6-4.

But Wofford pulled out a couple of third-set victories to win the match. Alan Donald topped Martin Redelinghuys at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3, while Paul Bartholomy defeated William John 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, to come away with the win.

Wofford closes out the regular season with a mark of 11-10 overall, 5-4 in SoCon action. The Terriers await to see how tiebreakers shake out to see where they will fall in the seeding for next week’s Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Tournament. UNCG (3-19, 1-8) will be the No. 10 seed in next week’s tourney and will face Georgia Southern in the opening round.
