CHARLESTON, SC – UNC Greensboro will open play at 12 noon Thursday against Appalachian State in the 2006 Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Championship.
The Spartans are seeded tenth and will take on the seventh-seeded Mountaineers in a first round match-up. Appalachian State won the regular season meeting two weeks ago, 5-2, in Boone. The match will be played at the City of Charleston’s Farmfield Courts.
At the same time Appalachian State and UNCG square off, eighth-seeded Davidson and ninth-seeded Georgia Southern will play in the other first round pairing.
Play continues on Friday at the Earle Tennis Center on the campus of The Citadel. Top-seeded Elon plays the winner of the Davidson-Georgia Southern match at 8:30 am in the first of four quarterfinal matches. Fourth-seeded Chattanooga takes on No. 5 Wofford at 10 am. The winner of the Appalachian State-UNCG match will face second-seeded Furman at 12:30 pm, while No. 3 College of Charleston and No. 6 The Citadel play in the final quarterfinal match beginning at approximately 2 pm.
The semifinal matches will be played on Saturday at 8:30 and 10:30 am. The championship match will take play on Sunday at 10:30 am. Those matches will also be played at the Earle Tennis Center.
