UNCG falls to UNCW, 5-2, in men's tennis action
WILMINGTON, NC – Three of the six singles matches went to a third set, and UNC Wilmington won two of them to lift the Seahawks to a 5-2 win over in-state rival UNC Greensboro in men’s tennis action Thursday afternoon.
UNCG got a straight-set win from senior Jason Steinhorn at No. 6 singles, defeating Christopher Yee, 7-5 and 6-3. Freshman Austin Wilty earned the Spartans’ other point at No. 4 singles, rallying to defeat Grant Holland in dramatic fashion, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5.
However, the Seahawks won the four remaining singles matches and two of the three doubles matches to take the match.
UNCG awaits its paring for the Southern Conference Tennis Championship in Charleston, which get underway April 20 in Charleston, SC.
