East Carolina nips UNC Greensboro, 4-3, in men's tennis action
GREENVILLE, NC – UNC Greensboro’s Martin Redlinghuys, Ryan Lewis and Jason Steinhorn all picked up singles victories, but East Carolina matched it and won two of the three doubles’ pro-sets to edge the Spartans, 4-3, in men’s tennis action Wednesday afternoon.
Redlinghuys earned a three-set win over Aleksey Kochetov, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2, at No. 2 singles. Lewis and Steinhorn both had an easier time of it. Lewis won in straight sets over Brian Walters, 6-4 and 7-5, while Steinhorn topped Britton Steele in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-1.
However, Kochetov and Ricardo Barone topped Redlinghuys and Austin Wilty at No. 1 doubles in a tiebreaker for what wound up being the deciding point.
UNCG returns to action on Saturday at 1 pm when it hosts Chattanooga in a Southern Conference match-up.
