UNCG men’s tennis wins second straight

GREENSBORO, NC – The UNC Greensboro men’s tennis team picked up its second consecutive win Wednesday afternoon when the Spartans defeated in-city rival North Carolina A&T 5-2.

UNCG jumped out to a 1-0 as the Spartans claimed the doubles point with a pair of victories.  Austin Wilty and Martin Redelinghuys knocked off Vitas Hawley and Londell Hartfield to open the match.  After the Aggies won the second doubles match, Marc Ladouceur and Ian Conchar clinched the point for the visiting Spartans with an 8-3 triumph over Jared and Jeremy Martin.

North Carolina A&T tied the match at one point apiece after the first singles match as Damon Martin claimed a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 1 over Ladouceur.  Redelinghuys gave the Spartans a one point advantage as he earned a 7-6 (6), 4-6 (3) win over Porter Myrick at No. 2.

Jeremy Martin tied the match at two points apiece with a 6-4, 6-3 defeat of Conchar in the third singles match.  Wilty put UNCG back out in front as he earned a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win over Jared Martin. 

At No. 5, Jason Steinhorn clinched the match for Spartans when he bested Vitas Hawley 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5.  Ryan Lewis added a final point for the Spartans with his 6-4, 6-4 victory over Quincy Hawley in the final match of the afternoon. 

UNCG returns to the court Saturday when the Spartans travel to Charleston, SC for a match with College of Charleston.  Match time is slated for 1 pm.
