Men's Soccer Travels To High Point Wednesday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's soccer team hits the road Wednesday evening as it travels across the Triad to face undefeated High Point in a regional showdown. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Vert Stadium with live stats and video available courtesy of High Point on www.uncgspartans.com.
Wednesday's game marks the 26th meeting all-time between UNCG and High Point. The Spartans lead the all-time series by an 18-6-1 margin but have dropped the last two meetings, including a double-overtime 2-1 victory by the Panthers at UNCG last season. High Point scored the game-winning goal with 38 seconds remaining in the second overtime period as Shawn Sloan found the back of the net.
The Spartans enter Wednesday's game with a 2-2-1 record on the year after suffering a 3-1 loss to No. 23 NC State Friday evening in the home opener. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for UNCG which has scored 13 goals this year while allowing nine against. The Spartans have also out-shot their opponents by an 89-46 margin, with junior
Oddur Gudmundsson (Reykjavik, Iceland/Breidholti) pacing the attack with 21 points.
Senior forward
Hakan Ilhan (Stuttgart, Germany/Univ. of Stuttgart) ranks third in the Southern Conference while leading the team with nine points. Ilhan has scored four goals in the last three games while handing out an assist. Gudmundsson is second on the team with eight points, having scored four goals.
High Point enters the game with a perfect 4-0-0 record, notching wins over Elon, Adelphi, Northern Kentucky and Navy. The Panthers, who received one vote in the NCAA Division I NSCA Poll, have scored 15 goals this season while allowing just three against. Nine different High Point players have scored goals this season with Mamadee Nyepon leading the charge with four goals.
