The Spartans have out-scored their opponents by a 9-1 margin in the two wins over UNC Asheville and Longwood. Junior forward Oddur Gudmundsson (Reykjavik, Iceland/Breidholti) has been the offensive catalyst leading the Southern Conference with four goals in the first four games. Junior defender Maximilian Schulz (Northeim, Germany/Gymnasium Corvinianum) also leads the SoCon in a statistical category, pacing the team with four assists.

Friday's game marks the 42nd home opener in UNCG men's soccer history with the Spartans owning a 26-10-5 mark all-time. The Spartans are unbeaten in their last three home openers, including a 3-2 victory over No. 12 Duke in last year's opener. UNCG and NC State have met nine times prior to Friday's game with the Spartans holding a 5-4-0 record, including wins in five out of the last six meetings. This year's contest will be the first meeting between the teams since the 2003 season.

NC State is led by junior Nazmi Albadawi who has scored two goals and handed out two assists this season after leading the team with nine goals last fall. Junior Alex Martinez has a team-high eight points on the strength of two goals and four assists in his first year after transferring from High Point.
