Men's Soccer Falls At East Tennessee State 3-1
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – For the second straight game the UNCG men's soccer team scored the game's first goal, but the Spartans allowed three unanswered goals, dropping a 3-1 decision to East Tennessee State Tuesday night at Summers-Taylor Stadium. The loss is the first of the season for the Spartans who fall to 0-1-1 on the year.
UNCG opened the scoring in the 22nd minute of action as redshirt freshman Dustin Gamradt (Kiel, Germany/Hebbelschule) scored his first career regular season goal. East Tennessee State tried to clear the ball out of the 18-yard box but Gamradt intercepted the ball 20-yards out and volleyed a shot from his waist into the upper corner of the goal past the helpless ETSU goalkeeper for the early 1-0 lead.
The Spartans controlled play for a majority of the first half, holding a 10-4 edge in shots. ETSU goalkeeper Ryan Coulter kept the Buccaneers in the lead though as he posted six saves in the opening frame.
Coulter finished the night with seven saves to lead ETSU to the victory while Ford posted two saves in his first loss of the season.
UNCG continues its season-opening four-game road swing Sunday afternoon as it travels to UNC Asheville. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
