Men's Soccer Travels To East Tennessee State Tuesday Night

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's soccer team continues it season-opening four-game road swing Tuesday night as the Spartans travel to Johnson City, Tenn., to battle the East Tennessee State Buccaneers. The Spartans enter the game with a 0-0-1 record after battling to a hard fought 2-2 tie in double overtime at UNCW. Junior forward
Maximilian Schulz (Northeim, Germany/Gymnasium Corvinianum) led the Spartans offensively with a goal and an assist in his first career game. Junior
Oddur Gudmundsson (Reykjavik, Iceland/Breidholti) scored UNCG's first goal of the 2012 season giving the Spartans the lead in the season opener.
East Tennessee State opened the season with a 1-0 loss at Southern Conference foe Appalachian State. The evenly matched game saw the Buccaneers hold a 9-8 advantage in shots in the season opener.
Tuesday's game marks the third meeting all-time between UNCG and ESTU. The two teams split the previous two meetings with UNCG posting a 3-1 victory in 2008 at the Elon Tournament while the Buccaneers took home a 1-0 double overtime victory last season at the UNCG Soccer Stadium. ETSU scored the game-winning goal with 43 seconds left in the second overtime period as Alesi Osorio found the back of the net.
