Gamradt was rewarded for his hard work just 2:50 later as freshman Christopher Reingen (Dusseldorf, Germany/Univ. of Dusseldorf) found him behind the Catawba defense. Gamradt beat Harvey one-on-one and deposited the ball in the back of the net in the 37th minute for the 2-0 UNCG lead.
The Spartans came out of the halftime break and kept the pressure on Catawba, owning a 12-5 advantage in shots in the second half and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. UNCG took a 3-0 lead in the 63rd minute of play off of a scramble in the box. Redshirt sophomore Nathan Bunch (Raleigh, N.C./Incarnate Word) was able to jump on a loose ball in front of the Catawba goalkeeper and get enough on his shot to push it over the line for the three-goal advantage.
UNCG kept attacking down the stretch and had opportunities to add to the lead. Senior Hakan Ilhan (Stuttgart, Germany/Univ. of Stuttgart) had a chance from the top of the 18-yard box on a one-touch rifle shot that sailed just over the crossbar, while freshman Jannick Martens (Henstedt-Ulzburg, Germany/Alstergymnasium) had three shots, including one in the final 10 minutes of the game that just sailed wide of the post.
Redshirt freshman Stephen Moffitt (Burlington, N.C./Williams) and redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Davis Griffin (Raleigh, N.C./Leesville Road) combined for the second shutout in three days as they both made a save.
UNCG wraps up exhibition play Monday night as it travels to Rock Hill, S.C., to face Big South Conference member Winthrop in the final tune-up for the regular season. The Spartans open the 2012 regular season August 24 when they travel to UNC Wilmington.
